Manitowoc County Farm Progress Days Donald R. Peterson Scholarship
Dr. Donald R. Peterson was an Emeritus Professor of Agronomy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and leader in the Extension program. Donald was born and raised in Wood County, Wisconsin before coming to Madison to go to school. He earned a BS in 1949 and an MS in 1950 in Agronomy, and then earned a PhD in both Agronomy and Soil Science in 1953. Joining the Department of Agronomy as faculty in 1954, Dr. Peterson also expanded his career as an Extension weed control specialist. He was the director of Agricultural Research Stations from 1962 to 1974, and associate dean for Extension and state Extension program leader for agriculture and agribusiness from 1974 to 1990. Following his retirement from the university in 1990, Donald remained active in Wisconsin agricultural activities to include the Wisconsin Agribusiness Council and was chairman of the board of directors for the Wisconsin Farm Progress Days, Inc.
