Gerald W. and Tui G. Hedstrom Scholarship

The Gerald W. and Tui G. Hedstrom Scholarship provides a renewable award to a high achieving women pursuing majors in one of the following areas: physics, astronomy, atmospheric and oceanic sciences, and mathematics. The majors are listed in order of donor preference.

Completed applications are evaluated using donor criteria and College of Letters & Science criteria (academic excellence, community service, leadership, diversity, strength of character, and creative accomplishment). Successful applicants should also have strong recommendations and well written essays. In addition, scholarships with a financial need component require a completed FAFSA form on file with UW-Madison. Students who are not current recipients of Letters & Science multi-year scholarships are given priority. Students must be in and maintain good standing and full-time enrollment in the College of Letters & Science.

Gerald and Tui Hedstrom are both graduates of the University of Wisconsin. Gerald received a B.S. in Physics in 1955, an M.S. in Mathematics in 1956 and a PhD in Mathematics in 1959. Tui earned a B.S. in Physics in 1956 and an M.S. in Physics in 1957. She also holds an M.S. in Astronomy from the University of Michigan.
