ELPA Travel Application

Each year, the ELPA department is fortunate to be able to provide financial assistance to students for conference travel. Participation in conferences is an important part of the department’s mission to prepare scholars and scholar practitioners who generate and share knowledge, serve their professional communities, and cultivate equity and educational opportunity. Toward this end, funding for conference scholarships is provided by generous donor and alumna Dr. Marilyn Gaddis, and the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.

Any ELPA student attending a professional organization or association conference is invited to apply for funding support using this form. Students may apply for conference travel support each fall and spring.

We understand that this support does not cover all costs associated with conference travel. For additional support, the Department encourages you to review the Graduate School Student Research Grants Competition Information at https://grad.wisc.edu/funding/grants-competition/.

Your application will be reviewed within 2 weeks by our Financial Specialist, Jenny Ferry.

Please review the information and instructions below before submitting your application:

• Follow UW travel policies for airfare and hotels, if you are getting your trip fully funded elsewhere. Here is the link to UW policies Travel and Reimbursement – Division of Business Services – UW–Madison.

• Most scholarship payments will be made through the Bursar’s office to your account and processed through eRefund. Please check that you have entered your bank information in MyUW Student Center for direct deposit: https://bursar.wisc.edu/refunds/erefund-direct-deposit.

• Scholarship payments made to international students may be processed differently, through payroll rather than the Bursar’s Office, depending on the student’s tax status and U.S. presence, to ensure they are taxed appropriately: https://hr.wisc.edu/pay/international-payroll-and-taxes/.

• If you receive other types of financial aid, please contact the financial aid office first at finaid@finaid.wisc.edu or 608-262-3060 to make sure you are eligible to receive a conference travel award.
