Hellum Award
A gift from Erik and Jennifer Hellum created the Hellum Award to acknowledge students who demonstrate outstanding dedication to their studies and the Department of Communication Arts. We are grateful to Erik (Communication Arts ‘87) and Jennifer (Journalism ‘89) for their support of Communication Arts.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher. Preference will be given to seniors who are Wisconsin residents. We will prioritize Comm Arts majors and/or Digital Cinema Production certificate students however all qualified undergraduate students are encouraged to apply.
As part of the application, students are asked to briefly describe their most significant Comm Arts media production experience in course work while at UW-Madison in 100 words or less. Applicants must also identify a Communication Arts media production professor, instructor or teaching assistant who will serve as a reference for them. Applications are due Tuesday, April 15 by 11:59pm. References must also be completed by Tuesday, April 15.
The award totals $2000 and is split between applicants.

- Briefly describe your most significant Comm Arts media production experience in course work while at UW-Madison in 100 words or less.
- Recommendations will be used to determine whether you are a strong candidate for the award associated with the application. Please identify a Communication Arts media production professor, instructor or teaching assistant to serve as your reference. Your reference will be asked to answer a couple of questions instead of submitting a letter. Be sure to contact the reference to let them know you listed them as a reference for this application.
- Please note if you are awarded a Hellum Award, the Communication Arts Department will list you as a recipient of the award in our communications with the UW Systems Trust Funds and the general public.
- I understand that to receive and maintain my award I must be a student in good standing. Any instances of academic or non-academic misconduct may result in the removal of this award.
