John and Margo Hansen Scholarship
Eligibility Criteria
The Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison offers the John and Margo Hansen Scholarship to support undergraduate and graduate students in the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies who are participating in climate change and climate science research, projects, or areas of study.
Student applicants must be enrolled full-time in and actively pursuing one of the following Nelson Institute programs: 1) Undergraduate Certificate in Environmental Studies, 2) Undergraduate Major in Environmental Studies, 3) Undergraduate Certificate in Sustainability, 4) MS or PhD in Environment and Resources, 5) MS in Water Resources Management, 6) Graduate Certificate in Culture, History and Environment, 7) Graduate Certificate in Energy Analysis and Policy, or 8) Graduate Certificate in Sustainability
Student applicants must be in good academic standing, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Student applicants who are at least one full academic year away from graduation will be given special preference for this scholarship award.
Donor Information
This scholarship award is provided via private philanthropy from Dr. John Hansen and Mrs. Margo Hansen.
Scholarship awardees are required to write a thank you to the donors and are expected to coordinate with the Nelson Institute’s Director of Advancement & Donor Relations regarding these letters.
Award Information
One $4,500 scholarship is available to be awarded during the Spring 2025 scholarship competition.
Applicants will be notified of their selection in April 2025 and will be honored at the Nelson Institute’s Recognition Reception to be held in the Fall of 2025.
