Nietzchka Keene Prize

Nietzchka Keene was an award-winning director and Professor of Communication Arts who taught courses in editing, screenwriting and documentary from 1995-2004. This award was created in her honor by her colleagues and students to recognize outstanding work by a student (or students) in film and/or video production.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher. Priority will be given to Communication Arts majors and/or Digital Cinema Production certificate students, however all qualified undergraduate students are encouraged to apply. Applicants must identify a Communication Arts media production professor, instructor or teaching assistant who will serve as a reference for them. Applications are due Tuesday, April 15 by 11:59pm. References must also be completed by Tuesday, April 15.

The award totals $2500 and is split between applicants.

  1. Recommendations will be used to determine whether you are a strong candidate for the award associated with the application. Please identify a Communication Arts media production professor, instructor or teaching assistant to serve as your reference. Your reference will be asked to answer a couple of questions instead of submitting a letter. Be sure to contact the reference to let them know you listed them as a reference for this application.
  2. Please note if you are awarded a Nietzchka Keene Prize, the Communication Arts Department will list you as a recipient of the award in our communications with the UW Systems Trust Funds and the general public.
  3. I understand that to receive and maintain my award I must be a student in good standing. Any instances of academic or non-academic misconduct may result in the removal of this award.
