Ambassador John E Lange Scholarship for Study Abroad in Africa
The Fund is intended to support undergraduate students studying abroad in Sub-Saharan Africa, including those who have an interest in global health.
The purpose of this Fund is to support up to three undergraduate students per year who wish to study abroad in Sub-Saharan Africa through the University of Wisconsin’s International Academic Programs Office. Preference will be given to applicants with a grade point average of at least 3.0 and to applicants who are Wisconsin residents. The recipients must not have studied abroad with IAP before and must have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid. It is preferred that at least one of the scholarships will be applied to the study of global health, such as in the Council on International Education Exchange’s Community Public Health semester study program in Botswana or Summer Community Public Health study program in Botswana. However, if these programs cease to exist, IAP may, in their sole discretion, proceed to award the scholarship without following the program preference. All applicants are required to submit an essay explaining their goals for the proposed study abroad. If there are more qualifying applicants than available scholarships, preference generally will be given to the applicant(s) with the greatest financial need.
