Akira and Sharlie Miura Memorial Scholarship for Japanese and TESOL Studies Fund

This award is made possible through donations in memory of Professor Akira Miura, who devoted his entire career to teaching, promoting and developing Japanese language education, and his wife Sharlie Miura, a dedicated teacher fostering English as a Second Language education. This award is announced during the fall semester either in the Japanese program (in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures) or TESOL Certificate (in the Department of English). Although this award is based mainly on the applicant’s academic performance, special consideration is given to underrepresented minority and first-generation college students. Applicants must be declared in the Japanese program (major or certificate) or in the TESOL Certificate, have sophomore, junior, or senior standing, and with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and above.
