Ramón Alvarado Memorial Scholarship

The Ramón Alvarado Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Ramón Alvarado who graduated from the Law School in 2005 and was proud of his alma matter. He went on to open a private practice, where most of his cases were court-appointed. After establishing a successful practice, Ramón was sworn in as a judge in 2019. He served in metro Atlanta’s Gwinnett County and was recognized as the County’s first Hispanic judge and its first full-time judge of Korean descent. Ramón was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia a few months later and died in July 2020.

Ramón discovered his passion for public service while at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and he went on to help countless individuals in his 15-year career in public defense and as a judge.
