Frank Thayer - Virginia Hill Thayer Scholarship

The Frank Thayer and Virginia Hill Thayer Scholarship Fund provides support for undergraduate students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

FAFSA required prior to awarding decisions. Preference in selection is given to students who have financial need.

About the process: Students do not apply for individual scholarships with the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Students fill out one application and the scholarship committee matches students to awards. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academics, study area and involvement. Declared School of Journalism and Mass Communication majors
Seniors graduating in the spring or summer terms

Who is not eligible to apply?
Seniors graduating in December of the current term

Donor Information
Professor Thayer was an accomplished faculty member in the School, a graduate of Loyola Law School and the only lawyer to teach journalism (at the time of the gift). He was the adviser to the Daily Cardinal, the Octopus humor magazine, and the Badger Yearbook. Thayer helped organize Sigma Delta Chi, the professional journalism society.
