Joan and C. Michael Spero Scholarship

The Joan and C. Michael Spero Scholarship provides a one-time award to first year students with financial need.

Completed applications are evaluated using donor criteria and College of Letters & Science criteria (academic excellence, community service, leadership, diversity, strength of character, and creative accomplishment) and require well written essays. In addition, scholarships with a financial need component require a completed FAFSA form on file with UW-Madison. Students who are not current recipients of Letters & Science multi-year scholarships are given priority. Students must maintain good standing and full-time enrollment in the College of Letters & Science.

This fund was established by Joan and C. Michael Spero. Joan E. Spero graduated from UW-Madison in 1966 with a degree in International Studies. She received her MS and Ph.D in International Affairs from Columbia University and later served as an appointee of President Bill Clinton and Ambassador to the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
