Occom, Samson Legacy Award Fund

The Samson Occom Legacy Award Fund for American Indians was established by Faith D. Ottery, BS (‘75), MD (’81), PhD (’89), an enrolled member of the Brothertown Indian Nation in honor of Reverend Samson Occom, a founder of the Brothertown Indian Nation who has the distinction of being the first Native American to publish documents in English and had a deep commitment to education, specifically education of American Indians. The donor wishes to assist medical students with their education. This award will be made annually with preference given to one or more American Indian students, (that term to be interpreted to include members of the Brothertown Indian Nation), who demonstrate a commitment to leadership and academic excellence at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
