Lithography Success Scholarship

Juan (Tony) Torres’ 21 grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he earned a BFE in Printmaking, as well as a BSE in Environmental Studies from the University’s School of Education and Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, respectively. Tony is a freelance artist, illustrator, and designer who specializes in analog printmaking as well as acrylic, ink, and watercolor painting. He is currently working on his Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

Tony’s work draws from principles of cubism and frequently features distinctive faces and shapes; his art has been represented at Mendocino Art Center and 4th Street Fine Arts Gallery. He has also done both solo and group exhibitions, including “Rituals” at Sugar Bank Gallery (Los Angeles) (2023), “2023 Printmaking Triennial Exhibition” at Woods-Gerry Gallery (Providence, RI) (2023), “A Night with Tony Torres” at Berkeley Country Club (El Cerrito, CA) (2022), and “Inspirare” at Mendocino Art Center (Mendocino, CA) (2023). Previously, he was a gallery assistant at ACCI Gallery in Berkeley, CA (2021-2022)

In 2021, Tony received a Dane County Arts Grant, and in 2020, his “Pondering Artist (State1)” was selected for the UW Student Art Archive. In 2019, he participated in the UW Portfolio Exchange and was commissioned for the UW Slow Foods Mural.

Tony currently resides in Berkeley, CA, and is a Wisconsin Alumni Association Member.
