Curriculum and Instruction Graduate Scholarship Application: The C&I Student Awards Committee will decide if you are eligible for each award. For doctoral awards, preference may be given to students currently in their first 4 years of their program. This application will be used for consideration of the following awards:
School of Education Awards
MICHAEL W. APPLE FELLOWSHIP (Democratic education)
- This fellowship is administered directly by the School of Education. Application requires you to discuss how your research focuses on democratic education. Applicants who are not already familiar with Apple’s work are encouraged to familiarize themselves with his perspective on democratic education. The C&I Awards committee will select one or more nominees depending on School of Education guidelines.
ARVIL S. BARR GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP AND BARR AWARD SCHOLARSHIP (Teacher education)
- The recipient must be a graduate student in the School of Education whose major focus, in terms of program of studies and research projects, is teacher education. The C&I Awards committee will select the nominee for the department based on School of Education guidelines. MILTON PELLA SCIENCE EDUCATION (Dissertators in science education)
- The intent of offering this fellowship opportunity is to develop scholars in the several science disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Geology, Botany, Astronomy, and/or Meteorology and education who will train future science teachers and who will carry on meaningful research in the area of science education.
THOMAS A. ROMBERG FELLOWSHIP (Doctoral students in math education)
- The fellowship will support PhD student awards in the mathematics education program within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Awards will be made up to two PhD students each year.
CARRIE R. BARTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Graduate students)
- Intended for a graduate student focused on language arts education.
JULIA NIQUETTE NETZER and CLARA MAE NETZER WENDT SCHOLARSHIP (Graduate students)
- Intended for a graduate student focused on elementary education. Financial need and academic standing considered.
STEVE and DONNETTE BEHAR SCHOLARSHIP (Dissertators)
- This fund will be used to make an annual award to one dissertator in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
THOMAS P. CARPENTER FELLOWSHIP FUND (Dissertators in equity and learning)
- Applicants must be a dissertator by the semester that the fellowship begins. The Carpenter Fellowship is designated for scholars working on questions of equity and learning. To apply for this fellowship, please upload an additional paragraph outlining how your dissertation explicitly addresses issues of equity and learning.
