David L. Young Mathematics Scholarship Fund

The David L. Young Mathematics Scholarship Fund award was established February 16, 1965, in memory of David L. Young through donations from friends and family. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating math major whose primary interest is mathematics education. Multiple awards may be granted in any one year. Previous recipients are welcome to re-apply.

Applicant Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for the award:

  • Declared in the math major
  • Senior Standing
  • Expecting to graduate in Spring 2024, Summer 2024, or Fall 2024.

Application Materials
Applicants will be expected to submit the following materials for this application:

  • A personal statement expressing intention of or interest in math education
  • Their UW-Madison unofficial transcript
    The following submission materials are optional, but strongly recommended and encouraged, as the scholarship committee will use the quality and relevancy of submitted optional materials as criteria in application reviews and decisions:
  • A letter of recommendation (requested during the application process through WiSH)

Award Term
Spring applications are reviewed in the spring term and are awarded for the subsequent fall term. If an applicant intends to graduate in the spring term in which they applied, they should note clearly that they intend to do so and the award can be applied to the spring term if applicable.
