Peter Hoff Spanish and Portugese Study Abroad Scholarship Fund

Dr. Peter B. Hoff completed his bachelor’s degree at UW-Madison with majors in Spanish and French and later earned both his master’s and doctoral degrees in Romance Linguistics at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). Returning to Wisconsin, he taught Spanish and French at UW-Whitewater and also served as the Foreign Language Coordinator in the Languages & Literatures Department. Besides teaching, Dr. Hoff advised many students concerning world language study options including study abroad. This scholarship has been created to encourage and facilitate longer term (semester or year-long) international study for French and Italian majors who have yet to complete a study abroad experience of this length. It is his conviction, from personal experience, that a longer language/cultural immersion is key to achieving a high level of language proficiency and cultural awareness.
