Richard B. Bilder Scholarship

The Richard B. Bilder Scholarship was created in honor of Richard B. Bilder, Foley and Lardner-Bascom Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Professor Bilder was educated at Williams College, was a Fullbright Scholar at Cambridge University in England, and received his law degree from Harvard University Law School. He served as an attorney in the Office of the Legal Adviser at the U.S. Department of State before joining the Law School Faculty in 1965, where his expertise includes international and foreign relations law, international organizations, admiralty law, contracts and torts. He has served as Vice President of the American Society of International Law, on the Board of Editors of the American Journal of International Law, and on the Executive Council of the Law of the Sea Institute, among other positions.

Conditions of Award
To be eligible for this award, you must:

  • Be a full-time, second- or third-year law student in good academic standing
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in public international law
