Arthur B. Sacks Award for Undergraduate Excellence in Environmental Studies and Sustainability
This scholarship award is intended to support students who are exploring the relation of environmental studies to the concept and practice of sustainability.
Student applicants must be enrolled full-time in and actively pursuing one of the following Nelson Institute programs: 1) Undergraduate Certificate in Environmental Studies, 2) Undergraduate Major in Environmental Studies, or 3) Undergraduate Certificate in Sustainability.
Student applicants must be in good academic standing, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Student applicants must be at least one full academic year away from graduation. Students in their final year of studies are INELIGIBLE to apply.
This scholarship award is provided via private philanthropy from Emeritus Professor Arthur Sacks and Ms. Normandy Roden. Arthur is Director Emeritus of the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies; he was the second person to hold this role, succeeding founding Director Reid Bryson.
Scholarship awardees are required to write a thank you letter to Emeritus Professor Sacks and are expected to coordinate with the Nelson Institute’s Director of Advancement & Donor Relations regarding these letters. Scholarship recipients may also be offered the opportunity to meet Emeritus Professor Sacks.
One $500 scholarship is available to be awarded to an undergraduate student during the Spring 2024 scholarship competition.
Applicants will be notified of their selection in April 2024 and will be honored at the Nelson Institute’s Scholarship Recognition Luncheon on Friday, April 19, 2024.
