Nelson Institute Undergraduate Study Abroad Scholarships

Eligibility Criteria
The purpose of these scholarships is to provide support to undergraduate students in the Nelson Institute who are participating in traditional (non-internship), for-credit, international study-abroad programs.

The study-abroad program must occur in the future (Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Spring 2025); these scholarships are not for in-progress or previous study-abroad programs. Preference will be given in this order: year-long study abroad, semester-long study abroad, summer study-abroad.

Student applicants must be enrolled full-time in and actively pursuing one of the following Nelson Institute programs: 1) Undergraduate Certificate in Environmental Studies, 2) Undergraduate Major in Environmental Studies.

Student applicants must be in good academic standing, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Student applicants must be at least one full academic year away from graduation. Students in their final year of studies are INELIGIBLE to apply.

Scholarship awardees are required to write a thank you to the scholarship donor(s) before the award will be processed. Awardees are expected to coordinate with the Nelson Institute’s Director of Advancement & Donor Relations regarding these letters.

Award Information
One $5,000 Charles G. Meyer Undergraduate Study Abroad Travel Award and one $3,500 James A. Schleif and William H. Morley Undergraduate Study Abroad Travel Award are available to be awarded to two undergraduate students during the Spring 2024 scholarship competition. Applicants are eligible to receive either the Meyer OR the Schleif-Morley scholarship; applicants may not receive both.

Applicants will be notified of their selection in April 2024 and will be honored at the Nelson Institute’s Scholarship Recognition Luncheon on Friday, April 19, 2024.
