Marilyn T. and C. Vernon Howard Moral Obligation Scholarship
The Marilyn T. and C. Vernon Howard Moral Obligation Scholarship provides a one-time award to a high achieving junior or senior in the College of Letters & Science with financial need.
Completed applications are evaluated using donor criteria and College of Letters & Science criteria (academic excellence, community service, leadership, diversity, strength of character, and creative accomplishment). Successful applicants should also have well written essays. Students who are not current recipients of Letters & Science multi-year scholarships are given priority. Students must be in and maintain good standing and full-time enrollment in the College of Letters & Science.
C. Vernon Howard received a similar award when he was a student at the University of Michigan Law School, without which he would not have been able to graduate. In creating this award, the donors intend to benefit students who have distinguished themselves academically and have financial need. It is desired that the individuals who receive the awards accept the moral obligation to ultimately pay back to the fund the amount of their scholarship award so that future students may, under the same conditions, benefit from the Howard Moral Obligation Scholarship.
