Delmar and Mary Pockat Fellowship (ELPA-GD)

This scholarship was established by the Pockat family in memory of Delmar Ben Pockat BS ’50, MS ’51, PhD ’64 and his wife, Mary. Dr. Pockat dedicated his life to furthering public education in the states of Wisconsin, Texas, South Carolina, and Tennessee. He began his career as a high school science teacher in Cudhay, WI. He served as principal at the Waterloo School District in Wisconsin and served in the same capacity in Mayville, WI and Nicolet High School in Glendale, WI. After receiving his PhD from UW in 1964, he taught School Finance and School Law at the University of South Carolina. He also taught at the University of Texas, and then was the Dean of the School of Education at Middle Tennessee State University. He felt all successful teachers must demonstrate a genuine love for children and stressed the important of excellence in public school education.

Eligibility Criteria
Graduate student(s) selected as a Delmar and Mary Pockat Fellow must have demonstrated the highest commitment to educational administration and show outstanding potential. The recipient must also demonstrate long term commitment to the field of educational administration in public schools. This fellowship is awarded to a returning adult student with preference given to an individual with family responsibilities.
