Theodore Herfurth Sophomore Scholarship
The Theodore Herfurth Scholarship provides a one-time award to high achieving first year students with financial need pursuing a degree from the College of Letters & Science.
Completed applications are evaluated using donor criteria and College of Letters & Science criteria (academic excellence, community service, leadership, diversity, strength of character, and creative accomplishment) and require well written essays. In addition, scholarships with a financial need component require a completed FAFSA form on file with UW-Madison. Students who are not current recipients of Letters & Science multi-year scholarships are given priority. Students must be in and maintain good standing and full-time enrollment in the College of Letters & Science.
Theodore Herfurth Jr. established this scholarship to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students in the College of Letters & Science. Mr. Herfurth was a prominent Madison business and civic leader and is credited for determining the author of the famous “sifting and winnowing” phrase inscribed on Bascom Hall.
