Nellie Wakeman Scholarship

Nellie A. Wakeman was the first female faculty member of the UW–Madison School of Pharmacy and in 1913 became the first woman to graduate from the School’s PhD program. She was a fierce advocate for women and is remembered for her achievements as a chemist who worked with plant pigments and as a talented teacher. She was the advisor of Leo Vinton Butts, the first African-American pharmacy graduate at UW.

This scholarship is to be awarded to promising students within the School of Pharmacy.
