Charline M. Wackman Award

Charline M. Wackman, a Wisconsin native who lived in Dane county, graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1918 with a major in Speech. Ms. Wackman participated in theatrical productions and was especially interested in the artistic aspects of theater and speech.


Eligibility Criteria
This scholarship fund provides one-time awards to Wisconsin residents with junior or senior standing who have been admitted to the Communication Arts major. Scholarships are awarded for academic achievement (cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher), a superior project proposal, and service to the Communication Arts Department and its mission. Past recipients may apply.


How to Apply
In addition to completing the online application, students submit an essay associated with the award category for which they are applying (academic achievement, project, service to the department) and a brief description of their financial need. Applicants must also identify a Communication Arts professor, instructor or teaching assistant who will serve as a reference for them. Applications are due March 5, 2024. References must also be completed by March 5, 2024.

  3. Recommendations will be used to determine whether you are a strong candidate for the scholarship(s) associated with the application. You should carefully consider who you request for a recommendation. We strongly recommend that you ask a Communication Arts professor, instructor or teaching assistant to serve as your recommender. Your recommender will be asked to answer a couple of questions instead of submitting a letter. Be sure to contact the recommender(s) to let them know you listed them as a recommender for this application.
