This incoming first year student scholarship does not require completion of a separate application, rather, students are considered after submission of the admissions application and the FAFSA. College scholarships for first year students are very scarce and limited.

This Victor C. & Bessie I. Hamister Distinguished Scholarship provides a renewable award to a Wisconsin resident with financial need and high achievement that indicates future academic success.

This scholarship was established by Donald and Margaret (Peggy) Hamister to honor Donald’s parents, Victor C and Bessie I. Hamister, both of whom attended the UW-Madison from 1912-1916, receiving bachelor’s degrees. Both also went on to become great achievers during their lifetimes.
