Lucile Schreiber and Wendel A. Witkay Scholarship (OT-GD)

Lucile heard about occupational therapy when ten years old and OT became her goal in life. She saved up for her training by babysitting and doing various odd jobs. While in high school she assisted an occupational therapist as a volunteer with children in Wisconsin General Hospital. During college she worked as a doctor’s secretary and office clerk in several state agencies.

At the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Lucile majored in psychology with electives in art and most of the sciences. She graduated with honors in 1939. She then attended the St. Louis School of Occupational Therapy where she was granted the one available scholarship of $100. She completed the two year degree in one and a half years.
