King-Morgridge Scholars Program

The King-Morgridge Scholars Program is a four-year, full-tuition scholarship for enterprising, creative, dedicated students committed to applying their talents toward poverty alleviation. Selected for their community involvement, leadership, academic success, and commitment to addressing poverty alleviation, King-Morgridge Scholars join us from secondary institutions around the globe.

Eligibility requirements: incoming first-year, undergraduate, Bachelor’s degree-seeking students who graduated from high schools/secondary schools in Africa, the Caribbean, Latin American, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.

Applicants must be first-generation students who demonstrate a high level of financial need. Applicants must be within three years of receipt of high school diploma or GED.

  1. What is your country of citizenship?
  2. What programs and/or resources have helped you prepare for application to international universities?
  3. Have you enrolled in and completed university level coursework in your home country?
  4. Do you intend to return home upon completion of your degree?
  5. Please describe how you might use a degree from UW-Madison to address issues of poverty alleviation and economic or community development in your home country/region. We do not expect you to have a concrete plan of action, but we are interested in hearing about your innovative thoughts and ideas. Please submit an essay 500-700 words in length.
  6. The King-Morgridge scholarship is meant for students who could not otherwise afford to study at a university in the United States. For us to ensure that we are meeting the parameters laid out by our generous donors, we ask that you answer this question honestly and to the best of your ability.
    • 1) Please tell us how much your family can contribute annually to your university education in USD (or specify currency).
    • 2) Tell us in short answer format about your family's financial status and ability to support your education.
  7. Please share a list of your siblings and their current or highest educational level. For example, “I have one older brother who completed university last year and two younger sisters who are in secondary school.”
