Lawless Louis and Mathea Helen Mollere Pre-Medicine Scholarship
The Lawless L. and Mathea Helen Mollere Pre-Medicine scholarship supports an aspiring physician junior or senior with financial need pursuing a degree from the College of Letters & Science. Applicants must be second or third year students at the time of application who intend to be enrolled the following academic year. Successful candidates have an excellent academic record with evidence of progress in pre-medicine coursework and demonstration of breadth of study or experience in the liberal arts outside of the biological sciences. Only currently enrolled, U.S. citizens are considered. The donor prefers that recipients do not smoke or use alcohol or drugs.
Completed applications are evaluated using donor criteria and College of Letters & Science criteria (academic excellence, community service, leadership, diversity, strength of character, and creative accomplishment). Successful applicants should also have strong recommendations and well written essays. In addition, scholarships with a financial need component require a completed FAFSA form on file with UW-Madison. Students who are not current recipients of Letters & Science multi-year scholarships are given priority. Students must be in and maintain good standing and full-time enrollment in the College of Letters & Science.
This fund was established by the estate of Mathea Hellen Mollere to support students preparing for a career in medicine.

- (Mollere/Ebling) Describe your current involvement in research. How has your involvement in research shaped your development as a student and prepared you for medical school?
- (Mollere) The donor of this scholarship intends to provide opportunities for recipients to explore areas of study outside the biological sciences and/or allow students to participate in enrichment programs like the arts, study abroad, conference attendance, second majors or certificate programs and other engaging experiences. These demonstrate a commitment to breadth. If you were to receive this scholarship what would it allow you to study or experience that expands your academic breadth?

This is your opportunity to tell us about any extenuating circumstances (financial or otherwise), challenges, identity and/or family experiences and history, exceptional talents or accomplishments, or other factors that are not contained in other areas of the application that may impact its review. Please be specific when presenting the additional information while honoring your need for privacy and discretion.

It is best practice for you to also communicate directly with your recommender about your requested letter. The letter of recommendation is due on the same date the application closes.
