Marion A. Hicks Scholarship

The Marion A. Hicks scholarship provides a one-time award to high achieving Wisconsin residents who are first year students pursuing a degree from the College of Letters & Science.

Completed applications are evaluated using donor criteria and College of Letters & Science criteria (academic excellence, community service, leadership, diversity, strength of character, and creative accomplishment) and require well written essays. In addition, scholarships with a financial need component require a completed FAFSA form on file with UW-Madison. Students who are not current recipients of Letters & Science multi-year scholarships are given priority. Students must be in and maintain good standing and full-time enrollment in the College of Letters & Science.

Mr. and Mrs. Stratton E. Hicks established this scholarship in memory of Mr. Stratton’s sister, Marion, who received her BA degree in chemistry in 1920 and MS degree in Education and Speech from UW-Madison. She was a successful teacher for many years and an accomplished musician, with forte in piano.
