Paul R. Ebling PreMedicine Scholarship

The Paul R. Ebling PreMedicine Scholarship provides a one-time award to an aspiring physician committed to attend UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health in the upcoming fall semester. Recipients must be graduates of a Wisconsin high school, current UW graduating seniors from any school or college and have excellent academic records with evidence of progress in pre-medicine course work, research and service to the campus and/or Madison community.

Demonstration of reasonable progress towards admission at UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health for the next academic year is required.

Completed applications are evaluated using donor criteria and College of Letters & Science criteria (academic excellence, community service, leadership, diversity, strength of character, and creative accomplishment). Successful applicants should also have strong recommendations and well written essays. In addition, scholarships with a financial need component require a completed FAFSA form on file with UW-Madison. Students who are not current recipients of Letters & Science multi-year scholarships are given priority. Students must be in and maintain good standing and full-time enrollment in UW-Madison.

Student financial aid packages can be impacted by scholarship awards. It is recommended that students contact the financial aid office to learn about impact on current aid packages.

This fund was established in loving memory of Dr. Paul Ebling. Dr. Ebling, the son of a UW professor of agricultural economics, developed a love of learning and a devotion to the University at a young age. After graduation from the UW Medical School and a residency in internal medicine, he earned his doctorate in industrial medicine at the University of Cincinnati. For the last 20 years of his career he was the director of admissions at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Administration Hospital.
