Theodore Herfurth Freshmen Scholarship Fund

  • This incoming first year student scholarship does not require completion of a separate application, rather, students are considered after submission of the admissions application and the FAFSA. College scholarships for first year students are very scarce and limited.
  • The Theodore Herfurth scholarship provides a 4 year award to high achieving students with financial need pursuing a degree from the College of Letters & Science. Typically the award is $8,000 per year for 4 years. The student must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA; be enrolled full-time; and intend to graduate with an L&S degree.
  • Theodore Herfurth Jr. established this scholarship to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students in the College of Letters & Science. Mr. Herfurth was a prominent Madison business and civic leader and is credited for determining the author of the famous “sifting and winnowing” phrase inscribed on Bascom Hall.
