Student Research Grants Competition - Research Travel

This competition includes awards for international and domestic travel for eligible UW- Madison graduate students who are traveling to conduct research supporting their dissertation, thesis or final project. If you are traveling to present at a conference or other event, you are not eligible for this award. Please visit the Student Research Grants Competition – Conference Presentation application for this type of travel. Research travel occurring between July 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021 is eligible for this award. Please visit our program site and carefully read through the information presented regarding Research Travel funds before applying. Included is information on deadlines throughout the year, eligibility, award levels, FAQs, and more.

Important COVID-19 and Fiscal Year 2021 Transition Update

Note, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, university sponsored travel is currently cancelled until June 30, 2020. Additionally, as a part of the Return to Research Phase 1 directives, researchers seeking to resume research that cannot be completed at home must receive approval from their college dean (or designee for approval) or the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education. When university sponsored travel is allowed, applicants will need to demonstrate they have received this approval for their application to be considered.

With the plausible chance that further modifications to travel will be required after June 30th, we have placed a hold on reviewing applications until we have more information on what travel might look like after this date. Additionally, awards are provided on a fiscal year cycle (July 1 to June 30). We are currently transitioning from Fiscal Year 2020 to Fiscal Year 2021. Award eligibility, award level, and review dates will be updated as we learn more about Fiscal Year 2021 funding and potential modifications due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. We will update this page and our program site and recommence application reviews as more information is available.
