Helen Patternson Hyde Journalism Fund
The Helen Patternson Hyde Journalism Fund supports undergraduate students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Ms. Hyde was a professor of journalism at the University from 1923-1958 and was involved in the early years of what is now known as the office of University Communications.

Only School of Journalism and Mass Communication majors are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The application to apply for this and all other School of Journalism and Mass Communication scholarships is open the first two weeks of every December. Please visit our website for additional information on how to apply. Preference in selection is given to journalism students with a financial need.
Hyde served as a member of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication faculty for 33 years. During her tenure at Wisconsin she wrote two journalism textbooks, one on publicity for organizations and the other on feature writing. Her feature-writing book, published in 1939 with 10 re-printings, was used by most journalism schools in the United States, Africa, Australia, Great Britain and South America. In 1945, Hyde received the Association for Women in Communication’s Headliner Award to recognize her outstanding achievements.
