Betty Nelson Humanities Freshman Scholarship

The Betty J. Nelson scholarship provides one-time awards to freshman students intending to major in the humanities pursuing a degree from the College of Letters & Science.

Completed admissions applications are evaluated using donor criteria and College of Letters & Science criteria (academic excellence, community service, leadership, diversity, strength of character, and creative accomplishment). Successful applicants should also have strong recommendations and well written essays. In addition, scholarships with a financial need component require a completed FAFSA form on file with UW-Madison.

This scholarship is funded by a generous gift from Betty Nelson to encourage scholarship in the humanities.

Student financial aid packages can be impacted by scholarship awards. It is recommended that students contact the financial aid office to learn about impact on current aid packages.
