Rhodes Scholarship
Initiated after the death of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, the Rhodes Scholarships bring outstanding students from many countries around the world to the University of Oxford.
Eligibility Criteria
National scholarship funding 2-3 years of study at Oxford University for top students in every field.
Apply as a senior or recent graduate. Must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 but not yet 24 years old on October 1st of the year of application, and attain a bachelor’s degree before the scholarship term begins. Strong applicants have a GPA of 3.8 or above, and combine academic distinction with a record of service and leadership, 5-8 strong letters of recommendation, and a good rationale for study at Oxford University.
How to Apply
Candidates must be nominated by UW-Madison to compete nationally. To be considered for nomination, submit all application materials to the UAA Office by the campus deadline.
Selection Criteria
Selection criteria: intellectual and academic achievement, integrity of character, ability to lead, interest in and respect for fellow beings, and the energy to use one’s talents to the full.
Award Information
The Scholarship covers tuition and fees, airfare, living expenses, and related expenses such as books, for two years of graduate or undergraduate study leading to a degree at Oxford University. At the discretion of the Rhodes Trustees, a scholarship may be renewed for a third year. Up to 32 scholarships are awarded each year to American students.
