Lorraine A. and W. Dwight Stone Scholarship

The Lorraine A. and W. Dwight Stone Scholarship provides funding to undergraduates majoring in economics from the states of Minnesota or Iowa. There is a possibility for the award to be renewed for a second year at the discretion of the Department of Economics if eligibility is maintained. Financial need can be considered.

Scholarships with a financial need component require a completed FAFSA form on file with UW-Madison.

During Lorraine’s junior year at UW-Madison, she was hired by IBM. She married Dwight in 1945 and two years later, IBM laid off all married women. Lorraine went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Economics in 1970. The Stones established this scholarship as a way to give back to the Economics Department.

Student financial aid packages can be impacted by scholarship awards. It is recommended that students contact UW’s Office of Student Financial Aid to learn about impact on current aid packages.
