Shadid, Anthony Memorial Fund
The Anthony Shadid Memorial Fund is formally established within the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Mr. Shadid was a University of Wisconsin-Madison alumnus and foreign reporter for the Washington Post and The New York Times. Mr. Shadid won two Pulitzer Prizes for his courageous and informed journalism. In February 2012, he died from health complications while crossing the Syrian border. Mr. Shadid graduated from UW in 1990 with degrees in journalism and political science.
The purpose of this Fund is to support students spending time abroad studying as foreign correspondents or interns. This scholarship will be administered through the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, and also made available to non-journalism majors with an interest in international reporting. It is not required that an award be made annually. It is the Donor’s intent to fully support an international reporting opportunity when possible, the costs of which may vary from year to year.- Award
