Summer Internship Scholarship

This scholarship is intended for continuing undergraduate students (of any major) who are participating in unpaid internships taking place in the United States for credit. Award availability and amounts are subject to vary. Please note that if you apply for the Undergraduate Scholarship for Summer Study and/or Summer Finish Scholarship in addition to this scholarship, you are not able to receive multiple awards. If selected, you will only receive one of the awards.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Enrolled at UW-Madison pursuing an undergraduate degree
• Be in good academic standing and have a cumulative GPA which reflects academic success
FAFSA required prior to awarding decisions for domestic students. Students that are unable to file FAFSA are still eligible to apply and should utilize the open response financial need question on the application to explain their level of need.
• Enrolled in at least one UW-Madison Summer Term course (can be internship course and/or any other Summer Term course) by April 5, 2026
• Committed to a confirmed internship opportunity that will take place in the United States during Summer 2026
• Internship must be 15 hours/week minimum; 6 weeks minimum; cannot be for internship post-graduation
• Internship must be unpaid, meaning students will not receive a salary or hourly wage for their internship work. Students who will receive a stipend with the internship (for relocation, technology, research, etc.) may still apply for this scholarship, though they will need to disclose the stipend amount and purpose.

How to Apply
Apply for the Summer Internship Scholarship through the WiSH portal. Applications are due April 5, 2026.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should provide a job description and letter signed by their internship coordinator in the scholarship application. Completed applications will be reviewed by a scholarship review committee. Successful applications will have well written responses to the application questions. Funding is limited. Financial aid will be taken into consideration during the selection process.

Award Information
Scholarship award amounts are typically $1,000-$1,500. Funding is limited and financial need will be taken into consideration. Scholarship recipients will be notified by the end of April 2026.

Conditions of Award
Award availability and amounts are subject to vary. Awards can only be applied to UW-Madison Summer Term tuition and fees and may not be used at another institution or for another term.   7. One of the criteria for award consideration is financial need. In most cases, your FAFSA will provide this information.
