Norma A. Brooks

This fund acknowledges the life work of Norma A. Brooks ’49 who shared her expertise and appreciation of textiles and clothing with countless numbers of students during her twenty year teaching career in vocational/technical education. Norma was born and raised in Illinois. During her college search she visited the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Impressed with its natural beauty, she made the UW her choice, graduating in 1949 with a degree in Home Economics Education. Norma taught Home Economics in Milwaukee, Verona and Oregon, Wisconsin. In 1950, her husband, Lynndon Brooks, joined the UW-Madison faculty as a Biological Systems Engineer while Norma combined part-time work at Madison Area Technical College with her role as mother to a son and a daughter. A dedicated member of The University League, Norma served as President in 2001-02 and was active on many committees, especially the annual scholarship benefit. The University League is a nonprofit membership organization open to all who support the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The purpose of the League is to raise funds for student scholarships and to promote volunteer services, educational opportunities, and social activities for its members. Founded in 1901, The University League has provided student scholarships and loans since 1916. In the past thirty years, the League has provided more than one million dollars in scholarship funding for UW-Madison students and gifts to UW-related groups.
