Ken and Linda Tecler
The lifelong connection between Ken and Linda Tecler and the University of Wisconsin-Madison began, as many great Badger stories do, when they met at the iconic State Street Brats (then the Brathaus) in the mid-1960s. That pivotal introduction led to a wonderful marriage, a family that includes two UW-Madison graduate daughters, and an enduring commitment to the university.
Ken describes his time on campus as a transformational experience that extended far beyond the classroom, exposing the couple to new ideas and opportunities for debate that expanded their horizons. This intellectual foundation directly led to successful careers: Ken as an attorney and Linda as a dedicated early childhood educator. Even from their Maryland home outside D.C., their loyalty remains strong—they regularly attend football games at Camp Randall, schedule vacations around bowl games, and proudly connect with fellow Badger alumni. The decision to establish the scholarship was rooted in profound gratitude. Recognizing the valuable gift a first-class education provides, they wanted to ensure future students had the same opportunity to succeed. Inspired by Linda’s career and their daughters’ work in elementary education, the Teclers developed a strong conviction about the importance of early learning.
The Tecler Family Teacher Education Scholarship supports future educators focused on Early Childhood Education. By funding students who can instill a love of reading and learning in young children, the Teclers are paying forward the success their family has achieved, helping to foster the crucial curiosity and discipline that will serve youngsters throughout their lives.
