Jocelyn Mehls Hoeper
Jocelyn Hoeper established the Jocelyn M. Hoeper Counseling and Guidance Graduate Student Support Fund to assist graduate students in Counseling Psychology at UW-Madison. Jocelyn is a proud alumna, graduating with Honors in Psychology (1971–1975) before entering the Counseling and Guidance graduate program. As a first-generation college student, she credits UW-Madison with having a profound impact on her life, teaching her self-reliance and connecting her to a high level of scholarship and a community committed to the common good. She remains a “Badger” at heart, proud to carry on the university’s traditions. Jocelyn created this fund knowing that financial support is crucial for graduate students beginning their careers. Her generosity also strengthens the program’s “long tradition of excellence and commitment to service,” recognizing the foundational lessons she took from her own graduate experience. Her gift is fueled by her joy from a lifelong career (1977–2018) in School Counseling. Jocelyn never regrets choosing to be an advocate for students, parents, and teachers. While acknowledging the challenges of the profession, she celebrates the rewarding moments of connection, successful problem-solving, and the enjoyment of human growth, concluding that choosing meaningful work was a great gift in life.
