Glen and Elizabeth Vergeront

The Elizabeth Vandenberg Vergeront Award and 4-H Club Leadership Fund was established by Glen Wallace Vergeront to honor his wife, Elizabeth Vandenberg Vergeront, following her passing in 1947. He was interested in 4-H club work and decided to establish an annual scholarship to recognize a student’s junior leadership in 4-H. Following graduation from UW-Madison in 1914, Mr. Vergergont taught in high schools in Eau Claire and Wonewoc until 1918, when he joined the staff of the La Crosse County School of Agriculture. In 1921, he joined the Wisconsin extension service and served as a county agent in Jackson and Barron Counties until 1935. In 1935, he came to Madison as head of the farm and dairy records office. Three years later he became a dairy extension specialist and continued in this work until his retirement in 1954 as an emeritus dairy specialist. When he retired he was praised for his active role in improving dairy herds in Wisconsin.
