Harold and Harriet Coulter

Carolyn Coulter and Jeanne O’Melia established the Harold and Harriet Coulter Young Farmers Scholarship in memory of their parents, Harold and Harriet, because the sisters knew their parents wanted to give back to the Short Course program for helping them during their lifetime. Harold Coulter attended the UW Short Course in Agriculture in 1937. He was convinced that the techniques and understanding he received in that course were the reason he was a successful farmer for more than 60 years. Carolyn and Jeanne would like students of the Short Course to learn all they can in the course. It will help immeasurably in an agriculture career. The course will teach the latest techniques, provide sources about farming in the future and teach farmers to be thoughtful stewards of the land. The sisters grew up on a farm in Ohio Township, IL. They learned so much from their parents about caring for animals, planting and harvesting. The family worked hard and have been grateful for their experiences. Jeanne and her husband now live on the family farm.
